The Nelson Tasman Housing Trust has received a $1.2 million grant from the Nelson City Council for a planned new affordable housing development in Nelson South.
Our new affordable housing development in Tāhunanui was officially opened today and tenants will move in soon after Easter. The five homes in Muritai St are for families and people on low incomes. There are four 2-bedroom homes and one 4-bedroom home, all designed to be warm, dry and energy-efficient. We are delighted to announce that we've signed a contract to buy two properties in Totara St, Nelson, on which we plan to build six new rental homes. The sites at 6 and 8 Totara St are being sold by the Nelson City Council. Each section currently has a single old house on it. Our plan is to redevelop these adjoining sections and build a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes (see image above). The Nelson City Council has approved a proposal to make $2 million of its housing reserve fund available for housing projects catering for low-to-moderate income households. Nelson Tasman Housing Trust director Carrie Mozena told councillors she strongly supported the proposal, at a council meeting this week.
