New homes taking shape

New homes are quickly taking shape at the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust's latest development on Tōtara St, Nelson.

Six affordable rentals are being built here for families on low incomes and they are expected to be completed by spring this year. The homes will be a mix of two, three and four bedrooms.

These homes are next to the Victory Community Centre and close to schools, local shops and transport routes. They are designed to be warm, dry and energy-efficient and have photovoltaic panels to reduce the cost of power.

The tenant selection process will start soon, with the homes earmarked for people on the Public Housing Register.

Nelson Pine Industries has provided wood products for the manufacture of Potius Panel systems incorporated in the floor and wall construction. The Potius Panel system adds strength, includes pre-insulated panels, and greatly speeds up the building process. Nelson Tasman Housing Trust director Carrie Mozena said the trust appreciated Nelson Pine Industries' support.
